Gondola Skyride FAQ

  • In summer, the White Mountain Express Gondola takes between 13–15 minutes each way. Along the way, you'll be treated to a birds-eye view of spectacular scenery — and maybe spot some wildlife on the mountain trails below.

In winter, the average travel time is approximately 6-8 minutes.

  • Each gondola cabin can accommodate up to 4 people, with a combined maximum weight of 750 lbs.

  • The gondola can accommodate a wheelchair, walker or stroller, if these items can be folded. The item will be loaded into the gondola cabin ahead of the cabin you ride in. The attendant will remove it and have it ready for your arrival.

Summer & Fall: To access the Gondola barn at the base, follow the paved uphill pathway. The summit is well worn from foot traffic, but is not paved.

  • The gondola skyride ticket is a round-trip ticket. Guests may offload at the summit, enjoy the views and activities and visit the Summit Cafe for a bite to eat with the best views around. Guests can then board the gondola skyride for a return ride to the base area.

  • Yes, the gondola skyride runs in inclement weather. However, thunder and lightning will impact operations. Stay tuned to the Mountain Report for operational updates.

  • In the event of rain, you may be restricted from entering the Summit Cafe if the venue has reached capacity. If you want shelter and the Summit Café has reached capacity, load the Gondola, return to your vehicle, and wait for the rain to pass. Your Gondola Skyride ticket is valid beginning at your chosen Start Time and throughout the remainder of the day.

In the event of lightning or other emergency where Gondola operations are suspended, a Loon team member will open an emergency shelter at the top of Loon Peak to host guests. Loon team members will inform guests of next steps.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
